Two FedEx pilots were awarded the Lieutenant General Harold L. George Civilian Airmanship Award from the Order of Daedalians for demonstrating superior airmanship and teamwork in safely recovering and landing an essentially unflyable MD-11 that had experienced severe flight control malfunctions during final approach into Subic Bay International Airport, Philippines on June 16, 2002. American Airlines customers will, starting July 8, be able to use their cell phones longer before departures and sooner after landings on most aircraft. A Swiss Saab 2000 (HB-IYB) suffered blown tyres upon landing at Olbia, Italy when thrust reverse and anti-skid did not work. None of the 3 crew and 24 passengers were injured. The flight was inbound from Lugano, Swtizerland (LX2620). (Il Nuovo)
